The Day Before My Hair Restoration Surgery
Well, I’m on my way up to Seattle to get my surgery tomorrow. I’ve got my list of ‘do’s’ and ‘don’ts.’ I’ve got my alternate hat to wear after the surgery, in case I don’t like/get tired of the baseball cap. I even brought along a movie of my own, just in case I can watch it. (For anyone wondering, it’s Fellini’s “8 ½,” which is a film I love – but I’m not usually able to clear the time to sit down and watch it).
Overall, I’m not feeling nervous. I feel like everything should go well; I’ve done enough research that I feel confident with my choice to go with Bosley and I’ll get to hang out with my Uncle Tim, who lives in Seattle. He's a singer/sonwriter also. Check out his stuff at timgaron.com.
My list does tell me that I’m supposed to drink 2 – 3 large glasses of water or juice 2 hours before the surgery…which is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. So, I’m not sure if I’m going to pull that one off. I guess I have to set my alarm for 5:30, get up and chug a bunch of water…? I don’t know, we’ll see how that goes. Plus, all I can think of is that I’ll have to get up to pee every 15 minutes for the first hour or two of the surgery. Maybe I’ll just try to drink some water when I get up.
Another thing I’ve got – all buttondown shirts. The list reminds me to avoid any pullovers – which I probably never would have thought about. So, let me just say “thanks” to the list.
Here’s another thing – I asked Bosley if I could videotape the whole procedure, and they said yes. So not only will I have pictures, I’ll have some live video of Dr. making 1800 incisions into my scalp. I figure if nothing else, I can probably sell the footage to that 24-hour surgery channel on cable.
Tomorrow’s the big day! I’ll be posting right afterwards with pictures and video, so stay tuned!

On the topic of hair loss, for those who are suffering or only want to prevent there are available also supplements with the nutrients required to nourish and re-grow the hair,as sometimes hair loss can be caused by stress, lack of proteins, iron, vitamins such as vit B6. In the case of men dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hormone is responsible for hair fall.Saw Palmetto plant extract has been shown to reduce DHT and 5 alpha-reductase. It actually blocks the receptor sites that are required for the absorption of DHT. It promotes hair growth by blocking the culprit DHT(this is a tip for men).
One cause of hair loss in women can be hormonal imbalances. Having an overactive or under active thyroid gland may cause thinning hair. Treating the thyroid disease will usually help this type of female hair loss. Hormones can also cause hair loss if female hormones (estrogens), are out of balance causing women's hair loss. However, if the hormone imbalance is corrected, the hair loss should stop.
Regarding hair loss as a side effect of drugs, some examples include cancer drugs(examples:Taxotere,Nexavare,Xeloda,Nolvadex), antimalarian agent Lariam, anti inflamatory drug Vioxx, used to reduce pain and relief of osteoarthritisto, and drugs such as blood thinners and medications for gout, arthritis, depression, heart problems, and high blood pressure.
